Second Baseman Installed in Hall of Fame

The Major League Baseball Hall of Fame just added a fine second baseman and hitter to its number. The newest member of baseball’s most elite group is Jose Altuve, who retired at the age of 42.

“I always knew I was good enough to play, but the Hall of Fame was one of the few things I never even dreamed of,” said Altuve at his induction ceremony. “For me to focus a lot on the individual, that’s not the way I learned to play the game. Baseball is a team game. You win as a team, you lose as team. You also do so many things together, but it is not an ‘I’ thing.”

During his illustrious career, Altuve had 459 home runs among his 3490 hits, while batting .293. He played in 2968 games, scored 1848 runs and knocked in 1552 runs.
