NLCS: White Sox Take the Pennant

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Colorado Field as the League Championship Series stretched to the final game.

It was the Chicago White Sox feeling the thrill of victory, with a 7-5 win over the Colorado Rockies, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the World Series.

“There’s no way around it — this sucks,” said Colorado manager Matt Powell. “Congratulations to Chicago, but I won’t sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight.”

Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was center fielder Sam Cain, who was named MVP. He hit .286 with a .300 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 8 RBI and scored 5 runs.

“We’ve got the most important stat of all and that’s this final win — that’s the one that matters,” he said.

The World Series matchups and schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
