James Kaprielian was throwing strikes early and getting ahead in the count, his manager said after the Oakland Athletics hurler tossed a 4-hit, complete game shutout against the Seattle Mariners.
“I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count,” said Kaprielian. “I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings.”
Kaprielian walked 1 and struck out 10 in the 14-0 victory.
Season-to-date Kaprielian has rung up 9 wins and 8 losses in 25 appearances. He has an ERA of 4.04 and has fanned 108 batters in 151.2 innings.
