Washington Owner Lerner Jr. Passes Away, Son Replaces Him

Despondent and forlorn are the streets of Washington today. The Washington Nationals baseball team has lost its leader, owner Ted Lerner Jr.. He died suddenly yesterday, while on vacation. Club officials briefed the press today on the situation and released funeral plans. Services will be held day after tomorrow in Washington. As far as who will take over for Lerner Jr., the Washington Nationals spokesman indicated it would be dealt with in the near future, but he had no word on who the successor would be. Press speculation is that Lerner Jr.’s son, Kevin, would be his replacement as owner. The younger Lerner Jr. was characterized by sources high up in the Washington Nationals hierarchy as economizer when it comes to money and lenient when it comes to management.
