Philly Cleans House; Fires Byrnes & Girardi

Josh Byrnes came in to work today, only to find out he’s now unemployed.

“Kind of a shocker,” the former Philadelphia general manager said of the news. “Things haven’t been going well but I thought I’d have more rope than this.”

Critics and second-guessers of Joe Girardi can also rejoice — his tenure in Philadelphia is over. He was fired as the Phillies manager today.

According to one player, who requested anonymity, the decision was long overdue.

“I never really agreed with his decisions and I think he’s cost us a lot of games with the way he manages,” the player said. “I like Joe as a person, but as a manager I don’t think he’s the right person to run this baseball team.”

When told of the anonymous comment, Girardi took the high road.

“I don’t really need to get into a war of words with someone, I have no comment on that. Basically, the front office has made their decision and that’s that. No discussion needed,” he said.
