Buehler Twirls No-Hitter Against Padres

New York Mets starter Walker Buehler said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn’t move.

“I took a breath and told myself ‘This is the last one,'” Buehler recalled.

The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.

The New York right-hander no-hit the San Diego Padres 7-0 at Citi Field, finishing with 2 walks and 14 strikeouts, facing only 28 batters.

“I knew for a while it was a no-hitter,” Buehler admitted later. “But I really didn’t worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too.”

This year Buehler has worked 144.2 innings with 175 strikeouts en route to a 11-3 record and a 2.49 ERA.
