Beltran Removed in Minnesota; Fired as Manager

The fans in Minnesota have gotten their way — today the Twins parted company with manager Carlos Beltran.

He had been living on borrowed time after a poll of local sports fans found that he was losing popularity quickly. Fans had been increasingly more vocal about their displeasure with how Beltran was running the club on and off the field.

They had even created a “Fire Beltran Zone” in the right field bleachers, where fans would post signs and dress in t-shirts supporting his exodus as manager.

Asked if fan pressure had any effect on the termination, a Twins official, spoke off the record and said, “Yes, it had a bearing. We are always concerned about our fan base, but this was not the primary reason for the dismissal. In the last few months, things have gone downhill and we just had to do something about it. We decided to get new leadership in the clubhouse.”
