The Houston Astros stepped up when it counted and are off to the Division Series.
With a 4-3 win at Minute Maid Park, Houston has eliminated the Cleveland Indians and won the Wild Card Game.
“Our guys knew what it took to win and we stepped up when we most needed to,” said starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.. “We need that same intensity and effort in the next round too.”
McCullers Jr. was named series MVP as he threw 8 innings, with 5 strikeouts, while allowing 4 hits, 3 walks and 3 runs.
Indians manager Doug Dascenzo said his team is already focused on getting back to the playoffs and having a better result next year.
The Houston Astros will play against the Boston Red Sox in the next round. Boston had a bye in the Wild Card Game. The Division Series is scheduled to begin on October 8th, 2021.
