Searching for Leadership; Mets Add Longoria

The Baseball News Network is reporting that New York and Chicago have agreed in principle to a swap that will send 36-year-old 2B Daniel Murphy and 20-year-old minor league CF Adrian Hernandez to the Cubs with 35-year-old 3B Evan Longoria and $4,500,000 in cash joining the Mets. New York general manager Chris Monte would not confirm the trade, but a team representative close to the negotiations said the deal is official and is now only awaiting approval from the league.

Presently Murphy is batting .261 with 18 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 5 runs and scored 11 times.

In his 2021 season totals, Longoria has 10 home runs, .240 BA, .305 OBP, 35 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
