White Sox Trade Espinoza to Mets

It took some time to iron out the details, but the Mets and White Sox have agreed to a swap. Chicago will get 18-year old minor league 3B Sergio Estrada, 18-year old minor league CF Luis Rivera, 24-year old minor league LF Stephon Deshommes, and 22-year old minor league RHP Jeff Laub with New York receiving 32-year old RHP Stephon Espinoza in return. A source close to the trade talks said the two clubs were initially looking to make a bigger deal, but discussions broke off late last night. The two sides reconvened early today and eventually settled on this deal.

Chicago will retain a portion of Espinoza’s remaining contract.

In his career Espinoza has posted a record of 47-74 and compiled a 4.30 ERA.
