Jeff Kent Gets the Nod

Thousands of fans braved the wind to watch and cheer as baseball’s latest legend, Jeff Kent, was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame today. With his 377 home runs, 2461 hits and lifetime .290 batting average, everyone knew the gifted second baseman belonged with the immortals of the game. Still, Kent remained humble.

“I’m a very lucky person to be born with the skill to play baseball and through baseball I built a name for myself,” said Kent. Now his career as a baseball player is complete. “This seals it,” he said. “To get the recognition that every ballplayer seeks — this is completion for me.”

Kent retired at 40 in 2008. He was inducted as a member of the San Francisco Giants, earning votes from 75.0% of eligible voters. In his epic career he played in 2298 games and finished with 1518 RBIs and 1320 runs scored.
