Pair of Milestones Reached by SD’s Albies & Shead

Ozzie Albies got hit #2500! The Padres second baseman got his milestone hit at Petco Park against New York. But it wasn’t enough to bring home the victory. San Diego was beaten by the Mets 6-0.

Albies‘s reaction to his accomplishment was nonchalant. He doffed his batting helmet to acknowledge the fans, who were chanting his name.

His manager said, “Ozzie doesn’t pay any attention to individual statistics, the only thing he cares about is winning. He will be more concerned that we lost the game.”

Albies finished the game with 1 hit in 4 at-bats.

Albies is batting .281 lifetime with 2500 hits, 587 doubles, 58 triples, 322 home runs, 1175 RBIs to date. He has also scored 1311 runs.

After the game the San Diego Padres outstanding reliever Donnie Shead celebrated his 300th-career save by reminiscing about his first save. “I remember it clearly. I was a rookie and the last one standing in the bullpen in an extra-inning game. Our staff was worn to a frazzle and was desperate for a pitcher. So they put me in. I faced four batters, rung up the victory and took the first step toward 300 saves.”

Since coming into the league, Shead has registered 300 career saves.
