Pitching Machine Responsible for Injury to Villicana Found to Be Safe

Safety inspectors declared today that the pitching machine, which hurled an errant fastball into the helmet of Ben Villicana, was working properly. Villicana, who was temporarily knocked unconscious when the machine unexpectedly delivered the ball “way high and inside”, suffered a mild concussion. However, the Marlins expect Villicana to make a full recovery. “He should be back in uniform in a few more days,” said manager Frank Thomas. “We’ll keep an eye on him, but he should be fine.” Teammate Juan Ibarra added, jokingly, “Ben just needs to watch himself. I think that pitching machine has it out for him!”
