The players apparently knew they were on the trading block, so it did not surprise one of them when he learned that he had been traded to New York. “Got my bags packed already,” he said, when reached for comment. The Mets will receive 24-year old minor league RHP Gabriele Piovani, while 34-year old RHP Lance McCullers Jr. will go to the Atlanta Braves.
Atlanta will retain a portion of Piovani’s remaining contract.
This season McCullers Jr. has accumulated no saves, registered a 0.64 ERA and struck out 11 in 14 innings. He also has a 1-0 record in 12 relief appearances.
So far in his career, the 24-year-old Piovani has put up a 4.73 ERA with 9 wins and 15 losses.
