The Major League Baseball Hall of Fame just added a fine first baseman and hitter to its number. The newest member of baseball’s most elite group is Miguel Cabrera, who retired at the age of 40.
“I always knew I was good enough to play, but the Hall of Fame was one of the few things I never even dreamed of,” said Cabrera at his induction ceremony. “For me to focus a lot on the individual, that’s not the way I learned to play the game. Baseball is a team game. You win as a team, you lose as team. You also do so many things together, but it is not an ‘I’ thing.”
During his illustrious career, Cabrera had 491 home runs among his 3019 hits, while batting .309. He played in 2638 games, scored 1523 runs and knocked in 1776 runs.
